Two sailors. One goal. Once around the world.
Globe40 – an adventure balancing euphoria and challenge
On 1 September 2025, Melwin Fink and Lennart Burke set off on a round-the-world sailing race – as the youngest team in history. Six legs, two sailors, one boat – and one goal: to sail around the world
Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink took part in the demanding Globe40 2025/2026 offshore regatta with their Class40 ‘Next Generation Boating Around the World’. In six legs, the route took them across the world’s oceans, past legendary capes and with stops on five continents. The race began in September 2025 in Lorient, then proceeded via Cádiz, Mindelo in Cape Verde, La Réunion, Sydney, Valparaíso in Chile and Recife in Brazil, before returning to Lorient. The teams arrived back there in mid-April to great cheers from the fan base.
Although the Next Generation Boating Around the World crew had got off to a very successful start, were among the favourites and had secured podium places, the race was not without setbacks for Fink and Burke: serious damage to the boat on the third leg forced the team to turn back. What followed was an intensive repair phase – and an unshakeable determination to return. In Recife (Brazil), they finally managed to rejoin the race for the final leg. Greeted and cheered on by sponsors and the team, Next Generation Boating Around the World reached the port of La Base in Lorient on 17 April 2026 as the third Class 40 to do so.

The GLOBE40 is a unique sailing race for two-person crews that takes them around the globe. Divided into several stages, it combines sporting challenge with a genuine passion for discovery.
With modern technology, high navigational precision and the power of just two people on board, the GLOBE40 shows what real offshore sailing means – challenging, fascinating and absolutely unforgettable.

Prologue
31.08. – Lorient
GLOBE40 kicks off with a sporting prologue in the offshore stronghold of Lorient. The crews test their boats, tactics and teamwork – even before the first leg begins. A taste of what awaits them around the globe.
Leg 1
14.09. – Cádiz
The Atlantic Ocean awaits: from Cádiz, the crews set course for Cape Verde. The first leg brings trade winds, high temperatures and a real ocean feeling – a powerful start to the circumnavigation of the globe.
Leg 2
21.11 – La Réunion
Continuing eastwards: this stage takes the race deep into the Indian Ocean and on to Australia. Stormy seas, long distances and isolation make it a real test of endurance – for the competitors, their equipment and their mental strength.
Leg 3
02.10. - Cape Verde
A real long haul: from Cape Verde across the South Atlantic, around the Cape of Good Hope to La Réunion. Speed, endurance and strategic routing will determine the pace on this demanding queen stage.
Leg 4
01.01. - Sydney
From Australia across the Pacific to Chile: this leg is long, rough and demanding. The crews sail through the Southern Ocean – with strong winds, heavy seas and hardly any breaks. Offshore sailing in its purest form.
Leg 5
28.02. – Valparaiso
From the Pacific back to the Atlantic: the route takes us along the coast of South America to tropical Recife. Navigation, currents and changing conditions require a delicate touch – tactics are everything.
Leg 6
29.03. – Recife
The grand finale: from Recife back to Lorient. Once again across the Atlantic, with changing wind conditions and the finish line in sight. The final leg demands everything – concentration, speed and the unconditional will to complete the circumnavigation of the globe.
